Sewing Team

Bay Seniors members who like to sew are invited to participate with the Sewing Team, which creates items to sell, with all proceeds going to support Bay Seniors programs.

Sewing Team members are provided with materials and instructions, and work at home at their own pace on their own machines.

The team started years ago making reusable fabric tote bags—still a popular item for sale—and then branched out to other sewn items. Using donated fabric, sewing volunteers make eyeglasses cases, small storage containers, bottle holders, dignity scarves, purse-sized tissue holders, and more.

During COVID, team members sewed hundreds of fabric face masks for the community, and gowns and scrub caps for long-term care staff, volunteers, and visitors.

Items are sold at the St. Margaret’s Bay Community Enterprise Centre, 5229 St. Margaret’s Bay Road, Unit 1, in Upper Tantallon, and at selected Bay Seniors and community events.
