Interest groups are promoted by Bay Seniors to help members with common interests meet and share that interest together.
All groups must have one or more Bay Seniors members willing to serve as group lead. Bay Seniors provides assistance to help groups get started, and then the groups are self-managing. Promotion of Bay Seniors Interest Groups continues through our monthly newsletter.
Current Bay Seniors interest groups meet on an ongoing basis, with frequency of meetings being a group decision.
The following groups are currently active and are accepting new members:
- Birders – Periodic birding walks and emailed bird ID challenges.
- Nordic trail walking – One-hour walks on the St. Margaret’s Bay Trail on Thursday mornings.
- Three book clubs – Monthly meetings; the newest club is seeking members.
- Sew Far, So Good – Machine-sewing group that meets alternate Fridays.
- Solo – For members who are not part of a couple and enjoy social outings.
- Calligraphy – No previous calligraphy experience is necessary.
- Philately – For those interested in stamps.
These groups do not currently have space for new members, but likely will in the future:
- Well Preserved – Learn and use home-canning skills.
- Contract bridge – Learn and practice the basics of the game.
There is interest in starting the following groups, but a lead is needed to coordinate:
- Travel stories
- Life stories
- Lunch club
Bay Seniors members are welcome to join an interest group or suggest the formation of a new group. For more information about joining existing groups, please email interests@bayseniors.ca or call 902-820-3334.
