Cooking, Canning, and Community is a Bay Seniors program that allows participants to learn more about preserving seasonal food for pantry and freezer, and then share the cost and work of doing so. The group also makes meals together to take home.
The goals of the program are to develop new skills, techniques, and recipes, take advantage of local and seasonal ingredients to boost flavour and nutrition, and decrease cost and workload—and have fun while doing it.
All sessions require pre-registration and numbers must be limited for some sessions to ensure all participants will have items to take home from an afternoon session.
Sessions that allow for a larger group will be promoted in the Bay Seniors newsletter. All sessions require pre-registration. Bay Seniors covers many of the program costs, but the cost of food is shared between participants, who have input into what is prepared during each session.
The group meets twice a month on Wednesday afternoons from July to October, and once a month after that.
