Begun in 2009, the Seniors Association of St. Margaret’s Bay is a not for profit registered society whose purpose is to provide housing and accommodation for seniors; to research and represent the interests of seniors living in the greater St. Margaret’s Bay area; and to promote and participate in the development of wellness living for seniors in the area.
The Seniors Association of St. Margaret’s Bay works with community groups and other organizations to serve the interests of everyone within our Bay area. Residents of the St. Margaret’s Bay area live in a “community of communities” – each with its own heritage and network of neighbors. This diversity makes for challenges to identify and meet seniors’ needs. We serve long time residents of the area, those who have relocated to enjoy a retirement and lifestyle unique to the Bay, and reach out to those who may not come forward.
A gathering in the spring of 2009 in the community room at the Tantallon Superstore saw almost a hundred people come out in response to a notice of public meeting that had been called to discuss senior’s housing needs in the greater St. Margaret’s Bay area. Following that inaugural meeting and several more village meetings the Seniors Association of St. Margaret’s Bay was established to provide a vehicle for seniors in the greater St. Margaret’s Bay area to come together to promote wellness living in our community. Our primary goal is to serve seniors in the area stretching from Dover to Hubbards although our charter permits anyone to join in the association.
The findings from a number of public meetings and a survey have identified the following key areas of concern to seniors living in the area:
It is well documented that the majority of seniors wish to remain in their own homes. Our Association will assist individuals to make the contacts that can permit this to safely occur whilst working to see appropriate housing options made available such that if one cannot stay in one’s home they at least can stay in their community.
