Our active volunteers bring a complement of strong and diverse skills, including several recently retired highly experienced managers from the healthcare and community housing sectors.  We welcome your experience and the commitment of anyone willing to work to make the Bay area a community which serves the needs of seniors.

Our greatest needs for Volunteers at this time are:

  • Housing: Assisting with needs assessment research and developing seniors housing options in the St. Margaret’s Bay area.
  • Getting the news out and Communications: Help inform volunteers and Members of upcoming meetings & activities; Keeping connected to our Members & Friends (e.g. Newsletter); and, Liaising with other community church and service groups.
  • Speakers Series: Discovering and organizing Topics and Speakers for monthly Seniors meetings.
  • Community Liaison:  Liaise with non-profit and other community organizations.
  • Fundraising Projects: Assist with fund raising projects (e.g. Cookbook).
  • Grants: Work with a team to find Grant opportunities and/or help prepare grant proposals.
  • Information Centre: Assisting local seniors to find government programs and support services for seniors; and, Finding local services, recreational and social activities. Maintaining and improving the Local Services Directory.
  • Website: Spreading the word about the website and Local Services Directory; Participate in user reviews and focus groups to improving content, presentation, navigation, and ease of use; and, Technical assistance (e.g. HTML, Javascript, Expression Web or Dreamweaver, MS Excel & VBA, Photoshop, LightRoom, email support, etc.)
  • Membership: Hand out nametags and/or help sign-up new Members at meetings; Assist with Membership contacts and keeping membership rolls up to date with MS Excel.
  • “I’ll do Anything”: Many people start here … any volunteer leader will be happy to talk with you. Come out to a Seniors meeting, which are held at 2 p.m. on the 3rd Thursday each month at Shining Waters Marine. Or, come and visit us at the Seniors Information Centre any Tuesday or Thursday 10 am to 2 pm
  • Rides for Seniors Association meetings: We have a small list of requests and volunteers to drive people to meetings or activities. Please email if you can give a ride or know someone who needs a ride.
