Now in its fifth year of operation the Seniors Information Centre founded and operated by the Seniors Association of St. Margaret’s Bay is becoming a “go to” resource for local seniors and their families. Volunteer information officers are on hand on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10am until 2pm to assist walk in clients and respond to enquiries. In addition, a substantial data base of service providers has been researched and developed to permit meaningful information to be provided on services that are available locally. Supporting the office is the Association’s web site www.bayseniors.ca where much of the information available from the office may also be found.
The Centre is also serving as an information hub for the many service clubs, community groups and volunteer organizations active in the area who are working with seniors. Heather Cochrane, Association Past President, noted “we are delighted to be able to meet other community minded individuals and organizations and to add and share our resources in an effort to build and foster a safe, engaged and welcoming community in the Bay area.” She pointed out that “feedback from Centre users has been positive with some requiring access to web information and forms while others have appreciated assistance in sorting out government programs that are applicable to their needs or locating a service provider who not only advertizes but actually works in the area… With continuing support from our dedicated Volunteers, the Chebucto West Community Health Board and the generous and sustained backing of Shoppers Drug Mart we are looking forward to continued expansion of our service.”
We welcome anyone interested in volunteering to drop in and chat with us. As an all-volunteer Association we have many different opportunities for you to use your skills or interests in providing activities for seniors and public service to the community. Meet new people, make new friends, have some fun.
